Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 July 2026
DocuScan AI ("the app", "we", "us") is designed to work primarily on your device. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not operate servers that store your documents. This policy explains what information the app uses and why.
1. Information we do not collect
- No account or sign-up is required to use the app.
- We do not collect your name, contacts, or location. If you contact support, we collect the email address and message you choose to submit so we can reply.
- We show no ads inside the app and use no general-purpose analytics SDK. We run ads for the app and use Meta's measurement SDK plus limited server-side subscription signals as described in section 11. The IDFA is collected only if you grant Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission.
2. Your documents and scans
- Documents you scan, import, or create are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to us.
- Scanning, edge detection, image filters, text recognition (OCR), signatures, combining, extracting pages, compression, and password protection are performed on your device using Apple's built-in frameworks.
3. Optional AI features (third-party processing)
Some optional features use artificial intelligence — for example, converting a scan into an editable document, extracting tables into a spreadsheet, summarizing, or asking questions about a document. When you choose to use one of these features:
- The relevant page image(s) and/or recognized text are sent to Google's Gemini API over an encrypted connection to generate the result, which is returned to your device.
- This data is processed by Google as our service provider and is subject to Google's applicable terms. We do not use it to build a profile of you, and we do not store it on our own servers.
- If you do not use the AI features, your document content does not leave your device through the app.
4. Device permissions
- Camera — used only when you scan a document.
- Photos / Files — used only to import the specific images or files you select.
Permissions are used solely for the action you initiate, and you can change them at any time in your device Settings.
5. Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment; we do not receive or store payment details. Apple sends our attribution service signed subscription notifications containing product, transaction, trial/renewal status, and a random per-install purchase token generated by the app.
6. Support communications
If you use the in-app support form or contact us by email, we receive your email address and message so we can respond. In-app submissions are stored in a private support system. We do not use them for marketing or share them with Meta.
7. Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Data retention and deletion
Your documents remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. Support messages are kept only as long as needed to resolve the request. Attribution link records are automatically deleted within 400 days and duplicate-notification markers within 30 days. Meta and Apple retain information under their own policies. Contact us if you want a support message or attribution record removed sooner; because the app has no account, we may need information from you to locate it.
9. Security
Documents are kept within the app's private storage on your device. Requests to the AI service are sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above.
11. Advertising and measurement
We do not show ads inside DocuScan AI. We do run ads for the app on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, and we measure how well those ads work.
- The app creates a random per-install purchase token and registers it with our attribution service alongside Meta’s app-scoped anonymous identifier, Apple’s identifier for vendor (IDFV), your tracking-permission status, and the app version/build. Limited app interactions and App Store subscription events are sent to Meta so we can measure and optimise ads for useful activity and subscriptions.
- If you grant App Tracking Transparency permission, the app also shares the IDFA. If you decline or later disable permission, the IDFA is not collected or shared; Meta may still receive anonymous or aggregated app and subscription events. The app works fully either way.
- We never share your documents, scans, AI content, or support messages with Meta.
- Meta processes this data under its own Privacy Policy.
- U.S. residents (CCPA/CPRA and similar laws): we do not sell your personal information for money. To the extent sharing the advertising identifier is treated as a “sale” or “sharing,” you can opt out by declining the prompt; for users in applicable U.S. states we also instruct Meta to handle the data under its “Limited Data Use” terms.
