Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 June 2026
DocuScan AI ("the app", "we", "us") is designed to work primarily on your device. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not operate servers that store your documents. This policy explains what information the app uses and why.
1. Information we do not collect
- No account or sign-up is required to use the app.
- We do not collect your name, contacts, or location.
- We show no ads inside the app and use no third-party analytics SDK. We run ads for the app on platforms like Facebook and Instagram and measure how they perform: only if you grant permission on Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt does the app share an advertising identifier with Meta for that measurement — see section 11, “Advertising and measurement.” If you decline that prompt, you are not tracked across other apps or websites.
2. Your documents and scans
- Documents you scan, import, or create are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to us.
- Scanning, edge detection, image filters, text recognition (OCR), signatures, combining, extracting pages, compression, and password protection are performed on your device using Apple's built-in frameworks.
3. Optional AI features (third-party processing)
Some optional features use artificial intelligence — for example, converting a scan into an editable document, extracting tables into a spreadsheet, summarizing, or asking questions about a document. When you choose to use one of these features:
- The relevant page image(s) and/or recognized text are sent to Google's Gemini API over an encrypted connection to generate the result, which is returned to your device.
- This data is processed by Google as our service provider and is subject to Google's applicable terms. We do not use it to build a profile of you, and we do not store it on our own servers.
- If you do not use the AI features, your document content does not leave your device through the app.
4. Device permissions
- Camera — used only when you scan a document.
- Photos / Files — used only to import the specific images or files you select.
Permissions are used solely for the action you initiate, and you can change them at any time in your device Settings.
5. Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment; we do not receive or store your payment details. Your subscription or entitlement status is stored on your device.
6. Support communications
If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and the contents of your message so we can respond. We do not use it for marketing.
7. Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Data retention and deletion
Your documents remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. Deleting a document removes it from the app; uninstalling the app removes its data from your device. Because we don't store your documents, there is nothing for us to delete on a server.
9. Security
Documents are kept within the app's private storage on your device. Requests to the AI service are sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above.
11. Advertising and measurement
We do not show ads inside DocuScan AI. We do run ads for the app on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, and we measure how well those ads work.
- To do this, the app includes Meta’s measurement SDK. Only if you grant permission on Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt does the app share your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) and basic app events — such as installing or opening the app, or starting a subscription — with Meta Platforms, Inc., so that an install or action can be attributed to an ad. Under Apple’s rules this is “tracking.”
- If you decline the prompt — or later turn tracking off in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking — the advertising identifier is not shared and you are not tracked. The app works fully either way.
- We never share your documents, scans, or AI content with Meta — only the advertising identifier and the basic app events above.
- Meta processes this data under its own Privacy Policy.
- U.S. residents (CCPA/CPRA and similar laws): we do not sell your personal information for money. To the extent sharing the advertising identifier is treated as a “sale” or “sharing,” you can opt out by declining the prompt; for users in applicable U.S. states we also instruct Meta to handle the data under its “Limited Data Use” terms.
